Make a Difference Appeal
In a large, darkened room with over 1,000 people, all is eerily silent. The air buzzes with anticipation like a current of electricity. The auctioneer takes centre stage and floodlights blast him into focus. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he begins. This is the Make a Difference Appeal (MADA).
This emotionally charged segment of the evening is dedicated to raising money and awareness for a featured cause. For 20-minutes, the auctioneer appeals to guests for their donations. In turn, our community responds with a powerful display of compassion and generosity as bid card after bid card is raised in solidarity.
And on Saturday, November 2, 2024, we raised our cards for the Dale E. Creighton Brain & BioBank (DECBB).
Dale E. Creighton Brain & Biobank (DECBB)
Currently, there are no treatments or cures available to slow or stop neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. And today, there are close to one million Canadians living with dementia. Therefore, in a bid to increase our understanding of neurodegenerative disease and perhaps, one day, help inform treatment, the Dale E. Creighton Brain & BioBank (DECBB) has begun collecting brain tissue samples from people affected by neurodegeneration.
A first-in-Canada initiative the DECBB aims to accelerate scientific research by acting as a resource for distributing samples and clinical data to local, national and international researchers studying neurodegenerative brain disorders. Philanthropic support of $1,210,000 will provide the Dale E. Creighton Brain & BioBank with the necessary funding to augment and upgrade its equipment and processes.
With your generous support, scientists will be able to pursue innovative, meaningful research that will hopefully lead to breakthroughs helping people keep their memories longer and more intact.
