What began as a casual adventure for Noel and Terry Neeland became a journey of wine discovery and a budding love affair with Argentina. They immediately fell in love with the Malbecs of Mendoza, the terroir, the Andes, and especially the people. Purchasing their own vineyard and creating their own wine was an organic next step that evolved into a dream come true.

At Honig, they take their wine very seriously, but they don’t take themselves too seriously. Honig works only with two grape varieties, Sauvignon Blan and Cabernet Sauvignon. While much of Napa has uprooted Sauvignon Blanc in favor of Chardonnay, Honig remains committed to SB. Their tropical yet bone-dry SB defines the Napa style and continues to be one of the best in the valley. And the Cabs are pretty delicious too.

Te-Mata-TME-LOGO-BLACK-CMYK.jpg

First planted in 1892, Te Mata has five sites on these free draining, north-facing slopes. Soils to the east are mostly sandy loam over a sandstone base, and towards the west are sandy loam over a thin layer of clay and a silica pan. The distinctive shape of the hills is due to their comparative youth, in geological terms. At the meeting point of two tectonic plates, sandstone has been pushed up then worn away relatively quickly leaving a landscape of steep and gentle slopes, and terraces ideal for grape-growing.

A passion that runs in the family. In 1898, Ramón Marco Abella was born in Porrera. A man of entrepreneurial spirit and great fortitude, he decided to revive what had once been one of the best vineyards in the region. Just over a century later, his grandson David, together with his wife Olivia, decided to take things a step further by building a modern winery. The couple abandoned their professional careers in order to dedicate themselves full-time to their passion. The result of their efforts is the Bodega Marco Abella, a winery that contributes to the prestige enjoyed by Priorat wines the world over.
