Lee-Ann Davis had been buying tickets for the lottery since it began. For her, it was never about winning—it was about supporting a good cause. So, when she heard she had won $35,541.00, she thought it had to be a joke.
“I completely forgot I bought five tickets,” she laughs.
Lee-Ann has been with London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) for 25 years. For the first 12, she worked in cardiology, and for the last 13, she’s been supporting the psychiatry team. Currently, she serves as Medical Administrative Support at the First Episode Mood and Anxiety Program.
She remembers going to cash in her cheque when the bank teller said to her, “Wow, you won the lottery.”
And that’s when the win sank in.
“I found myself tearing up because I don’t usually win anything,” Lee-Ann says. “I guess now I can’t say that.”
With her prize money, Lee-Ann chose to celebrate by travelling to the Dominican Republic. She also invested some of the winnings, giving her added peace of mind as she plans for retirement down the road.
And in addition to improving patient care through her ticket purchases, she gave back to a local cat rescue, allowing them to purchase kitten food and other essential supplies.
“It makes me feel good knowing I could contribute to LHSC and help animals in need,” Lee-Ann explains.
